Gross sales doesn't equate to income for a travel agency but often times it's what owners talk about.  Let's look at the numbers we should be talking about, gross margin!

High owner dependency is a major risk that makes a business untransferable and thus un-sellable.

Operational Structure

A buyer's lens reveals the true value of your business, which is its ability to operate without you.  Systemize to Transfer Value: Document processes (SOPs) to make them a business asset, not personal knowledge. This portability is what a buyer can acquire. Equity is Leveraged: Structural improvements create equity at a multiple of the profit increase. A $50k profit gain at a 3x multiple adds $150k to the agency's value.

Meet Jeff

Once upon a time, before Jeff was navigating the world of travel, he was navigating balance sheets and tax returns. With six years in corporate accounting and 15 years in public accounting—including a decade running his own firm—he had his fair share of spreadsheets, audits, and coffee-fueled tax seasons. Jeff even served on the advisory council for the national accounting franchise Triple Check, helping shape their national B2B platform. At some point, he realized that staring at numbers all day wasn’t exactly the most magical way to spend a life. Sure, financial statements tell a story—but he wanted stories with a little more adventure and a lot less depreciation schedules. So in 2008, Jeff traded debits and credits for dreams and memories, launching My Mickey Vacation Travel, followed by Dreams Fulfilled Travel in 2019. Today, our MMV Travel Group spans multiple brands (with another exciting one on the way), all dedicated to creating unforgettable travel experiences. Despite stepping away from accounting full-time, his "hobby" for financial strategy hasn’t faded. He loves using his analytical skills to maximize profitability and—dare I say it—maybe even find financials a little fun. (Or at least less painful than tax season.) Jeff is enjoying running his travel business, traveling, and living life with his amazing wife, Karen, and their three fantastic kids. And yes, he still use spreadsheets—just now they’re for tracking vacation plans instead of tax deductions.
